Lil Wayne will not be in protective custody during his time in jail, according to reports.
The rapper - real name Dwayne Carter - begin serving his sentence yesterday to a year behind bars at New York's Riker's Island Prison.
Reports suggested that the 27-year-old's lawyer had put in a request for the star to receive protection over concerns for his health and safety, following his recent dental surgery.
However, Correction Department spokesman Stephen Morello has now told the New York Daily News that Wayne will in fact serve a "general population escort" term with the rest of the inmates.
Morello went on to deny rumours that the rapper made the request, maintaining that it was "his choice" to serve a regular sentence.

The Chelsea and England footballer is currently receiving treatment in a French clinic for an ankle injury, and sources claim that he decided to follow doctors orders and stay there until he is fully healed rather than return home to discuss his marriage troubles with the Girls Aloud star.
According to the Daily Star, Ashley has taken the advice of his medical team in a bid to boost his chances of returning to fitness in time for the World Cup this summer.
A patient at the centre told the publication: "He has faced a dreadful dilemma. He feels he should go to see his wife and try to sort out their problems.
"The longer the issues hang there, the less chance he has of smoothing things over. But the doctors aren't happy with the progress of his injury and don't want him to leave.
"You could almost say he put England before Cheryl."

Mario Lopez and girlfriend Courtney Mazza are reportedly expecting their first child together.
Speaking to People, the former Dancing with the Stars competitor revealed that the baby is due in the fall.
"I'm really excited. I'm happy. I can't wait to be a dad," Lopez said.
The 36-year-old said he planned to wait until Mazza gives birth to learn the baby’s gender.
"I don't know what we're having. I'm going to wait to see [the baby's gender] so it will be a surprise," he added.

Mary J Blige has revealed her love for Led Zeppelin, according to reports.
The award-winning singer/songwriter has already recorded covers of two of the heavy rock band's songs.
"I did Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lotta Love - it's crazy," she told MTV.
